Mission
This ministry solicits resources, both human and financial, to plan, coordinate and carry out the missions of the church in our neighborhood and the worldwide community.  It focuses its attention on enabling the congregation to reach out to others with the message of Jesus Christ and to minister to the physical needs of the poor and disadvantaged.  To coordinate efforts and solicit support to reach out to others, this ministry works closely with the Congregational Care Ministry.  It depends on the congregation’s support through their stewardship and contribution of time to their activities and appeals.

Locally, projects taken on by this ministry include partnering with the Bethesda Church of God in Christ in Elgin to make improvements to the Bethesda Community Center, installing a new floor at FISH Food Pantry and the rebuilding of the kitchen at the Community Crisis Center in Elgin.
 
Globally, the Mission Ministry has traveled to Mountain T.O.P. (Tennessee Outreach Project) in Tennessee; Cumberland Mountain Outreach Ministries Incorporated (CMO) in Kentucky; Moss Point Elementary School in Mississippi to build a KaBoom playground for this impoverished area of the Gulf coast following Hurricane Katrina; HOMES, Inc. (Housing Oriented Ministries Established for Service) in Kentucky and Arusha, Tanzania, East Africa to assist the children who attend St. Margaret’s Academy in Arusha and build a library.

Community Crisis Center ~ The Community Crisis Center Team serves dinner at the center in Elgin on a monthly basis.  Members of this team cook, donate food, formula or size 4-6 diapers or deliver the meals from posted menus.  Some items need to be prepared while others can be purchased and dropped off at the church.

CROP Walk

FISH (Friend I Shall Help) Food Pantry ~ The FISH Food Pantry Team helps others in our community who are less fortunate.  Non-perishable food products and personal care items are collected weekly.  Members of this team pick up and deliver the donations to the pantry located in the Meadowdale Shopping Center in Carpentersville.  FISH serves over 400 families monthly and is open to receive donations and serve the needy from 9:30-11:30 am on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays.

Habitat for Humanity

PADS (Public Action to Deliver Shelter) of Elgin, Inc. ~ PADS of Elgin, Inc. provides safe shelter, support services and advocacy to homeless individuals in Dundee, Elgin and Hanover Townships.  Four volunteers, 18 and older, are needed from 6:30-8:30 pm to provide staffing on Wednesdays at PADS, 1730 Berkley Street in Elgin.
